Graffiti

The graffiti in Bolivia is surprisingly boring. Mostly just scrawled tags or political slogans. Though I have seen some good stencils: Che with Mickey Mouse ears, Evo with a spliff, a suggestive Karaoke one (Karaoke Amor is a real place, but I doubt they commissioned this stencil).

Some graf is just confusing, like the Muerte al Reggeton (Death to Reggeaton) written at the top of the Antezana bridge in Cochabamba. Someone climbed up there and dangerously hung over the side just to dis Don Omar? Why oh why would anyone want to do that?

The pink characters (on a wall in La Paz) are definitely my favorite though the "Jovenes no se leventen, sistema trabajando" (Youth don't rise up, the system is working) that I walk by everyday is a close second.

Mujeres Creando, a La Paz feminist organization, definitely comes up with the most creative slogans. This one says "Che and Evo are the same: irresponsable fathers." Apparently they both have fathered children that they don't recognize or take care of. Someone was clever enough to just white out the "ir" of irresponsables instead of painting over the whole wall, thereby changing the meaning to their liking and saving them a lot of work. Next to this one there is another that says "Women who organize don't have to iron."
